About soap:  Ask a few historians about  when the  first soaps were made and you are sure to hear a few different opinions.   However; we do know
that people have used soaps to clean themselves for centuries. There are a few different types of soaps and soap  making processes: Cold process, hot
process and melt & pour. Cold process and hot processed soaps are made from fats either from animal or plants sources. They are rendered or expelled
and combined with lye & water to the point of saponification.  Depending on the desired results  herbs, clays, dried fruit and essential oils can be added. It
is then poured into a mold cut and left to cure. During colonial times the hot process was popular. Animal fat was rendered (cleaned), melted, mixed with a
liquid solution of potash (lye & water) and cooked.  The soap was ready to use soon after it cooled and hardened. Soap that you buy in stores today is
quite different from the ones made through out history and the ones we offer you here at Salty Horse'. Many commercial soaps contain detergents which
are made from petroleum based products, they contain a very small percentage of natural and pure products.   In addition to offering soap made the old
fashioned way whenever possible Salty Horse Bath Products uses certified organic products.

Glycerin: Is a byproduct of the soap making process and  attracts moisture from the environment to  the skin. Oils
and fats when combined with sodium hydroxide during the saponification process converts the oil/fat into two
substances: fatty acids and
glycerin. Glycerin is clear and colorless. It makes a softer soap. Herbs and essential oils
can easily be incorporated with glycerin to make a wonderful face and body bar.

Goat's Milk: Is rich in Vitamin A & B and minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and beneficial fats. Milk
proteins smooth , firm and soften the skin. Soap made with Goat's Milk is rich in natural emollients. It can relieve dryness and
leave your skin feeling silky smooth. Milk is high in water and fat factors and contains beneficial vitamins and sugars. New
"alpha hydroxy" acid skin treatments are made up of lactic acid (milk), citric acid,  glycolic, malic , and tartaric acids. New? Not
really. Cleopatra used goats milk as well as
horse milk as a bathing beauty treatment for the skin. Her famous milk baths
contained lactic acid, which removed the upper layer of the skin to revel smooth fresh skin. Try our Plum/Apricot Goat's Milk
bar with vitamin E. This rich bar moisturizes while mildly exfoliating. A nice whole body bath bar, is gentle enough for the face,
and conditions skin for a wonderful shave!

Cocoa Butter: Is used in many cosmetics, lotions and used in cold process soap to add that extra rich and creamy feel.

Aloe Oil: Can be added to soap for it's many healthful benefits.

Shea Butter: Used in lotions, cosmetics and to "super fat" soap.
